I think I keep going on and on about the weather and it has only been about 3 days above freezing! There is something magical in the air this time of year and it seems to make all the cold and snow of Winter worth it!
I don’t know how other states in the country deal with less dramatic season changes. The Winter to Spring change in Minnesota has to be one of the best changes in the world!
Ever since our oldest was born 5 years ago, my husband and I have tried to get in a nightly walk as much as we could. There were plenty of times we didn’t go, for a number of reasons, but there is something so calming and wonderful about a walk after supper. You know, the feeling of being uncomfortably full that usually leads to sitting in front of the television? It is usually calmed for us with a brisk walk around the neighborhood. Or, at least as fast as our youngest child can pedal…
When I was “super” pregnant, I used to skip some of our nightly walks. My husband usually did his best to make me go because he knew how much better I always felt after them. Some nights, when I skipped our walks, my husband would take the oldest kids on a walk by himself and I would put my feet up for 20 minutes of silence.
Now, the sun is out later. I can easily feed the kids supper and head out the door for a quick walk around the block, followed by some playing in the yard. This Summer we might see my husband go out the door for his nightly run or have a weekend bonfire after our walk.
There is so much hope and excitement this time of year as the season changes. I start looking forward to the evening more. I start incorporating more fun things to do with kids. I start believing more in the possibility that we can do anything we choose to do!
We start taking action on possibility, by taking one step out the door.
